Day 19 - The Dalles, OR to Crescent City, CA

Hopefully today the trip would get back to its regularly scheduled programming. I will meet John and Erin in Crescent City, and continue the trip as planned. I was up early, got everything packed up, fueled up (Oregon style) and was on the road. For those of you who have never bought fuel in Oregon, its a bit like full service used to be (I know I am dating myself here), but without the actual service. No wash your windshield, check your oil, etc.
There is some 1950's law on the books in Oregon that only trained attendants can dispense class 1 liquids into vehicles. Apparently New Jersey has this law as well. Odd.

On to the ride. 409 miles to cover - The first part of the day was through the hills of Eastern Oregon, and was a really beautiful ride through hills and valleys over the Deschutes river. I broke my own rule and didn't stop for any photos and am kicking myself for it now. The clouds, sun and hills were stunning.

After a quick stop in Bend, OR for some coffee and fuel, it was time to go up and over the Cascade Mountains near Crater Lake.

This wonderful scene didn't last long. 10 minutes later I was in mist, fog and once above 5,000 feet, it started snowing. It didn't last too long, but it was cold on that stretch of the trip - at one point the temp got down to 34.6 degrees. Even though I passed within 20 miles of Crater Lake, I didn't stop - no point when it is rainy and snowy. Another place I'll need to come back to.

On through Grants Pass and on to US 199 into California. This was an absolutely beautiful ride that went up and over the mountains, crossed the California state line and dropped into Redwoods National and State Parks - lots of RV's on the road that slowed things down a bit, but there was still stuff to look at.

I crossed into California and into Crescent City - and headed straight for the coastline. I had to get the photo!

I MADE IT! THE PACIFIC OCEAN!!!!!

From there it was off to the hotel to finally catch up with John and Erin. Here we are all together! A few days late, but I finally caught up!

We celebrated with beer and pizza at SeaQuake brewing and caught up with what we had seen so far. It will be really nice to travel with friends for this portion of the trip!
